Laverne Darrow Vaughan was born December 8, 1926 to James Omah and Essie Mae Vaughan in Vinson, Oklahoma, where he lived until the 1950’s. After serving in World War II, the entire family moved to Texas. He married Shirley Ann O’Hair in 1957, and they raised their four children in Colorado and Texas. LaVerne was involved in farming, agricultural related business and construction work all of his life. Like many of his generation, he is known for an amazing work ethic and his ability to ‘make something out of nothing’, being especially adept when it came to metal work. In addition to his love for country and family, LaVerne’s heart for missions and for serving God took him on several mission trips to Africa and to Belize. He served as an elder and a Bible class teacher through the years, telling of God’s love to those with whom he came in contact.

LaVerne is survived by his wife of 57 years, son Eric (& Kaye) of Farwell, Texas, Kasi, Kelly and Ali; son Byron (& Diana) of Chesterfield, Virginia, Heather, Rhett, Vanessa, Tiffany, Trevin and Terra; daughter Elaine (& Steve) Stancell of Muleshoe, Texas, Stephanie, Austin, Adam and Carson; son Devin of Lazbuddie, Texas; brother, Loyd (& Jane) Vaughan of Lubbock, Texas; sister Joye Breedlove of Littlefield, Texas; O’Hair in-laws and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Ruey and Glenn McKinney and brother-in-law, John (Junior) Breedlove.
