J.C. passed away March 18, 2015 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born January 23, 1922 in Spur, Texas.

J.C. lived in Spur before moving to a farm north of Lubbock. He started to school in Anton. His family moved to Morton, Texas in December of 1933, after his dad decided there was a better way to make a living than by farming. J.C. attended school in Morton and graduated from Morton High School. He volunteered for the Air Corps in 1942 at L.A.A.F., which later was named Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock. During the war, he served as a military policeman and was stationed in European countries. J.C.’s dad opened the Dodge-Plymouth agency in 1941, which J.C. was a partner, after he returned from World War II. After his return to the United States, he married Blackie Hill on February 2, 1946. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2011. Following the death of his father in 1949, J.C. sold the car agency and opened Reynolds Tire Company. He worked in this business until he and Don Allsup bought the Chevrolet agency in 1960. In 1966, he sold to Don, and he and Leon Hamilton later opened the Ford agency. Ray Hudson wanted to retire from the Texaco Distributorship, so J.C. purchased this in June of 1973. He enjoyed serving the many nice people of the Morton area. He tells that if he was delivering gas and it was lunch time, he could go to the farm house and be invited for lunch by one of the fine families of this area. J.C. suffered a heart attack in 1981 and sold the Texaco business to Ronnie D. Wallace, who still owns the business today. During his adventurous past, J.C. served as mayor of Morton from 1955-1958; served on the Morton School Board from 1960-1963; was a volunteer fireman for many years; long time member of the Morton Lions Club; member of the American Legion of Morton and received his 60 year pin in Levelland in August 2011; was a member of Cochran County Senior Citizens, where he enjoyed meeting other seniors; and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morton. He also enjoyed a yearly fishing trip with his fishing buddy, Ralph Beasley of Levelland, Texas. J.C. had been a resident of Ventura Place since October of 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blackie on February 10, 2011 and his parents.

Survivors include, his daughter, Pam Newsom and her husband, David of Amarillo, Texas; his grandson, John Newsom and his wife, Mikella of Lubbock, Texas and his granddaughter, Holly Vinson and her husband, Jeff of Lubbock, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Rex Newsom, Luke Vinson, Leah Vinson and Lillie Vinson, all of Lubbock, Texas.
