Obituary for Evelyn Northcutt Kerr (Smith)

Evelyn Marie Smith-Northcutt-Kerr died Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 89.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Fred Kerr of Farmington, NM, sister Ava Ruth Tidwell of Frederick, OK, and sister-in-law Joan Smith of Lawton, OK; her three children Dean Northcutt and wife Cherylee of Artesia, NM, Mark Northcutt and wife JoRonda of Baton Rouge, LA, and Mike Northcutt and wife Kristy of Houston, TX; step-son Larry Kerr and wife Linda of Farmington, NM, step-daughter Liane Kerr-Donisthorpe and husband Paul of Albuquerque, NM, and step-daughter Candy Pulte and husband Matt of Farmington, NM; grandchildren Austin, Amber, Dustin, Nathan, Hunter, Avery and Ethan Northcutt; step-grandchildren Kristin and Jimmy Karlin, and Amanda Kerr; great-grandchildren Kirstin and Beckette Karlin, and Lauren Wasson.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ellis and Clara Smith, siblings Raymond Smith and Linda Maddox, her first husband Edward Northcutt, and granddaughter Abbie Northcutt.

Evelyn was born on September 24, 1925, in Chattanooga, OK. She attended High School in Loveland, OK, and married Edward Northcutt on November 8, 1947. She obtained her B.S. in Education in 1973 and taught math at Muleshoe Junior High School for 18 years. She and her family faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Muleshoe, TX, for 30 years. After losing Edward to cancer, Evelyn married Fred Kerr on August 11, 1991, and moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico.

For the past nine years, Evelyn resided at the Wilshire Assisted Living center in Lubbock, Texas. Despite her lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, Evelyn maintained a happy and cheerful demeanor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
