Obituary for Sallie Carmen Carter (Dyer)

Chapel Service for Sallie Carmen Carter, 103, of Morton, Texas is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Monday, February 1, 2016 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Morton with Brother Harold Harrison of Whiteface, Texas officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery. Sallie passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Morton. She was born June 21, 1912 in Santo, Palo Pinto County, Texas to Gideon Thomas and Sarah (Bryant) Dyer. She married Ray Carter on December 24, 1930 in Lovington, New Mexico.  

Sallie moved from Petit, Texas to Morton in 1950. She was an artist. She loved art and was an avid horticulturist. Sallie also raised chickens and sold eggs to restaurants in Whiteface for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1986; her parents; one brother, Daniel Victor Dyer; and one son-in-law, Roger Harold Rutledge.

Sallie is survived by her son, Tommy Carter and his wife, Judith of Morton, Texas; her daughter, Julia C. Rutledge of Carrollton, Texas; four grandchildren, Teresa Jan Brown, Robert Steven Rutledge, David Harold Rutledge and George Daniel Carter; three step-grandchildren, Lynda Kay Francis, Ricky Lynn Levens and Jackie Eugene Levens; twelve great-grandchildren; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the South Plains Food Bank, 4612 Locust Street, Lubbock, Texas, 79404.
