Obituary for Polly Jo Oliver (Briscoe)

Polly Jo Oliver (Briscoe)
Polly Jo Oliver 10-20-40 / 12-2-16
On October 20th 1940, Polly Jo(Briscoe)Oliver was born the second child to Ruth and Kenneth Briscoe. She was pudgy with ringlets and deemed the ‘cute’ one. Growing up with a close bond to 1yr older sister Sandy (Turner) as well as a whole herd of cousins all close in age, boy, the tales they tell! When the girls were 16 & 17 a surprise baby brother Joe Dan joined the family…finally!, she had a baby to play with and love dearly. Polly graduated from Muleshoe High school in 1959, two years later marrying her High school sweetheart Derrell Oliver. They adopted their son Kent in July of 1973.
Polly loved kids and motherhood was her true calling, as there was never a task, project or involvement opportunity missed…all performed out of pure love and devotion. She gave the most love always.
Polly & Derrell divorced in the late eighties, remaining close friends and sharing in family events together to this day. Her family may be small and unconventional, but can’t be more caring for one another.
Hard headed, determined and a lifelong tomboy & girlie girl, there are few things Polly wouldn’t tackle. She excelled in everything from quilting and cooking to home improvement…rarely without polished nails, perfect hair, and makeup. In 2001 she completed a five-year long restoration of her early 1910s farm house…a lifelong dream. It is beautiful.
Polly loved a simple life of books, canned coke with a straw, licorice, the Texas Longhorns (any sport), Spurs basketball, boots & jeans, the Olympics, the Rodeo, Reality TV, coffee with the girls, Christmas, prowling through junk stores and always rooting for the underdog.
She is survived by son Kent Oliver, brother Joe Dan Briscoe, sister Sandy Turner and Mother Ruth Briscoe
In lieu of a traditional service, family & friends are invited to gather in celebration of her life from 5-8pm Tuesday, Dec 6th 2016 at Polly’s home in Muleshoe.
