Obituary for Willie Madge Kennedy (Winders)

Graveside Service for Willie Madge Kennedy, Age 95, of Caldwell, Kansas, is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Earth Memorial Cemetery with Brother Robbie Boyd of Earth officiating. Madge died Monday, December 5, 2016 in Caldwell. She was born April 15, 1921 in Wellington, Texas to Leabon Dudley and Willie Nola (Holloway) Winders.

Madge loved growing up as a farmer’s daughter. She graduated from Dimmitt High School and received her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from the University of California, and later received her Master’s Degree from Pepperdine University in California at the age of 67 years. In 1942, Madge married W.H. Awtrey of Muleshoe, Texas. From this union, a son, Richard L. Awtrey was born. In 1956, she married William Edward Kennedy Jr. of Wichita, Kansas. They were married for 35 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Leon “Bud” Winders, Louis “Monk” Winders, James “Jay” Winders, Dudley “Dud” Winders; sisters, Cleacy Layman, Pauline Simmons, and Gene Faulkner.

Madge is survived by her son, Richard Awtrey and his wife, Brenda of Caldwell, Kansas; her brother, Dale Winders; her sister, Jo Brinkerhoff; her sister-in-law, Evenal Winders; grandsons, Lonnie, Cary and Gene Awtrey; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Austin, Colton and Regan.
