Obituary for Robert R Blevins

Memorial service for Robert R. Blevins, age 74, of Clovis, New Mexico, is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Faith Christian Family Church (180 Chapel) in Clovis with Pastor David Swann and Pastor Curtis Adams of Faith Christian Family Church officiating. Robert R. (Bob) Blevins, 74, died of cancer, at home surrounded by family on January 8, 2016.

He was born in 1942, in Eureka, Kansas, to Otis and Heleneta Blevins. He graduated from Vaughn, New Mexico, going on to play baseball at NMSU. He was hired on to AT & SF Railroad in March 1964. He was drafted into the United States Army in April 1964, where he served 2 years, participating in the Vietnam campaign, followed by his 4 years of service in the reserves. He returned to the railroad where he retired in November 2002. In 1970 he married Lydia, his forever sweetheart, sharing 47 years of marriage. They were house parents for the New Mexico Boys Ranch, then moved to Clovis in 1972, with the railroad.

He was an avid sportsman with a passion for hunting. In their early years in Clovis, he enjoyed coaching his wife and sister in softball, later on also coaching his daughters. In more recent years, one of his greatest past times was watching his grandkids rodeo and play sports.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lydia; their two daughters, Leah (and husband Doug) Cotton of Clovis; Karen (and husband Cory) McDaniel of Texico, NM; two grandsons, Dustin (and wife Macy) of Texico, NM and Ethan McDaniel of Texico, NM; two granddaughters, Cassie Cotton and Tristyn McDaniel; a great granddaughter, Austyn McDaniel; one great-grandson, Deklyn McDaniel; his siblings, Betty (and husband Jimmy) Denton of Clovis and Jim (and wife Iris) Blevins of Clovis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Heleneta Blevins.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Cory McDaniel, Doug Cotton, Dustin McDaniel, Ethan
McDaniel, Dwain Glidewell and Shad Glidewell.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to VFW Post 3280, 200 West Grand, Clovis, New Mexico, 88101 or any other Veteran’s charity.
