Obituary for Audrey L Humphrey (Hendrix)

Audrey Lea (Hendrix) Humphrey, lovingly known as MeMa, passed from this life on May 25, 2019 in McKinney, TX, at the age of 95 years 7 months and 27 days. She was born September 28, 1923 in Panhandle, TX to Willie Henry and Lou Bertie Lea (Baxter) Hendrix. She was reared most of her life in Taiban, NM. Audrey was the only daughter out of 6 children.

Audrey moved to Muleshoe, TX, from Dimmitt, TX in 1975 and then moved to Anna, TX in 2011. She claimed Muleshoe as her home up to her dying day. She had lots of good memories in Muleshoe. She worked at Texas Sesame in the fall, where she weighed the trucks and inspected the corn. She was fondly referred to as Inspector 13. She worked at the local hospital in admissions and bookkeeping. In 1988 her daughter Judy and her husband, Leon opened J & L Fashions. At this she was on top of her game, she loved working at the shop and also designing clothing that was sold exclusively at J & L Fashions. After the closing of J & L Fashions she worked with her other daughter, Sherry Wisian, at Superior Med-Equip.

Audrey was a member of the Nazarene Church. She had a close walk with the Lord and lived a good Christian life. She was admired by her family and friends. Her past time was sewing. She made most of her children’s clothes when they were small. She was so excited when her family began to expand with the grandchildren because this meant she had a lot more sewing to do. She was also very crafty. She and Judy opened a craft space at the local craft mall. Many hours were spent creating lots of treasures. She was also a great cook, most likely known best for her meatloaf, buttermilk pie and cinnamon toast.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her family knows she is with our Lord and her loved ones that have gone before her. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers George, Clifford, Dave, and Loyd Hendrix and her son Richard Humphrey and son in law Leon Logsdon.

She is survived by her brother, Henry Hendrix Jr. of Fairfax, VA; her daughter and her husband, Sherry and Hilbert Wisian of Lubbock, TX, her daughter, Judy Logsdon of Anna, TX; her daughter in law Nel Humphrey of Lubbock, TX and her daughter in law Marilyn Humphrey of Amarillo, TX; 8 grandchildren and 7 spouses; 21 great-grandchildren and 5 spouses; 14 great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation is under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, Muleshoe, TX. On June 29, 2019 at 3:00 pm, the family will be hosting a celebration of life memorial service at Judy’s home located at 39 County Road, Anna, TX 75409. The family is requesting that if you are planning on attending to please RSVP. The family would like anyone that would like to share some memory about Audrey to please have it ready to be read.
