Obituary for Cammie D. Jackson

Cammie D. Jackson, age 93, of Bedford, Texas and formerly of Morton, Texas, was called home to Jesus on Friday, April 21, 2023. She was born May 20, 1929, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Lonzo B. Nix and Emma (Bussey) Nix in a tent near the Red River according to one of her many stories of her life. Cammie was a wonderful, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. If you knew Cammie, she always had a good story and loved being the center of attention.
Cammie married Lovell (Jack) Jackson on March 16, 1946, when they eloped to Texas. Although Cammie was 16, her parents thought she was too young to be married. Cammie adored Jack and wanted to make a life with him, and she did just that for 61 years until Jack’s passing. Jack and Cammie had two daughters, Deana Rae and Frankie Jean. In April of 1954, the family moved to Morton, Texas where they would make their home for many years. Cammie told the story of arriving in Morton and opening the door to their new home and breaking into tears at having to shovel West Texas dirt and sand from their home before moving in.
Cammie worked as a nurse at the local hospital and county schools for 17 years. She left nursing and became the bookkeeper for Jackson Farm Equipment. Cammie was active in all aspects of her life. She served on various committees and worked with several groups including: Y.M. Study Club, Board of Directors Senior Citizens, Morton Area Chamber of Commerce, Morton City Council, Last Frontier Ambulance Board, and she continued to serve in the First Baptist Church and community for many years. One of her fondest memories was working at the South Plains Baptist Camp in Floydada. Upon retirement, Jack and Cammie relocated to Lubbock in 2002. Cammie continued to stay active after retirement and was a sitter at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock in 2010, at 80 years young. In 2012, Cammie moved to Grapevine where she made a multitude of new friends and was a member of First Baptist Church of Grapevine.
Cammie loved to dress up in costume for any occasion and holiday. Whether it was her St. Patrick’s Day costume which included green hair or her clown costume just because she said it made people smile. She enjoyed bringing people joy and loved being the center of attention – especially on her birthday. For the past month, she has been reminding everyone that visited her that her birthday was coming soon. Cammie was just shy of 94 years, and she often said, “God has been good to me, and I have sure been blessed!”. Cammie is preceded in death by her husband, Lovell (Jack) Jackson, daughter, Frankie Watkins, her parents, granddaughter, Cammie Williams, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
Cammie will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Deana Ware, of Morton; grandson Carey McMullen [Ashley] of Littlefield; granddaughter Cy Mireles [Paul] of Grapevine; great grandchildren: Sara Williams, Seth Williams of Morton; Stephen McMullen [Isabel] of Midland; Cara McMullen and great-great-granddaughter of Lubbock; Justice McMullen [Addison] of Lubbock, Cameron, Davian, & Hevenly McMullen of Muleshoe, Brandon and Dalton of Littlefield; Hayden Mireles of Abilene and Colton Mireles of Grapevine.
