Obituary for Cara Juan Schuster (Bishop)

Cara Juan Schuster age 92, of Muleshoe, Texas, died Monday, May 23, 2022 in Roswell, New Mexico. She was born June 3, 1929 in Olney, Texas to John Gaston and Carrie Lee (Carruth) Bishop. She married Jack Schuster on February 28, 1948 in the Lubbock, Texas.

Cara served as the local Community Missions committee director at First Baptist Church of Muleshoe. The committee started the Goodwill Center at the Mexican Baptist Church of Mulehsoe. They taught the Hispanic women to speak English, cooking, canning, and sewing. She also assisted with Sunbeams, GA’s and taught Sunday school. Cara also served as the WMU President and the District Community Missions Director. She helped to establish the Heritage Foundation by writing grants for funding to move into the Santa Fe Railroad Depot and Pumphouse, Jane’s House, and the Muleshoe Ranch Cookhouse along with assisting to establish the Thrift Shop to help support the Heritage Foundation. Cara was a Charter member of the National Museum of Woman in the Arts in Washington, DC. Cara also won various awards for her oil, watercolor, and acrylic paintings, and sold many of these paintings to private investors in multiple states. Cara is proceeded in death by her huband, one son; Eric Schuster, and her parents.

Cara is survived by one son; Alec Schuster and his wife Lindy of Arnett, Oklahoma, two daughters; Debbie Lee Schuster of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kathy Hunt of Muleshoe, Texas. Five grandchildren; Shane Suthers, Carolyn Segovia, Daniel Hunt, Melinda Schuster & Leslee McGehee seven great- grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
