Obituary for Jean Kemp (Burris)

Jean Kemp, age 90, of Muleshoe, Texas, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in Muleshoe. She was born February 16, 1932 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to James E. and Gertie (Jones) Burris. She married Jack Kemp in Muleshoe on May 12, 1947.

Jean loved music. She enjoyed writing songs, singing and playing the piano. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Jean was a member of Trinity Christian Center Church in Muleshoe. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; three sisters, Naomi Burris, Wanda Kemp and Johnnie Ivy; three brothers, Sonny Burris, Jackey Lee Burris and J.D. Burris; and a son-in-law, George Whatley.

Jean is survived by her son, Terry Kemp and his wife, Debbie Jo of Muleshoe, Texas; her daughter, Jackie Jean Whatley of Muleshoe, Texas; her sister, Libby Black of Lubbock, Texas; her four grandchildren, Chanda Schovajsa and her husband, Charles, Chad Kemp and his wife, Jena, Layne Kemp and his wife, J’Layne and Kasey Whatley and his wife, Stacie; her fifteen great-grandchildren, Matthew Schovajsa and his wife, Desiray, Bryleigh Fisher and her husband, Tanner, Stephen Schovajsa, Christopher Schovajsa, Caroline Kemp, Tripp Kemp, Jude Kemp, Hayes Kemp, Jade Kemp, Jynsen Kemp, Caleb Kemp, Kyle Whatley and his wife, Viviana, Keeley Burris, Lindsey Allen, and Ryleigh Burris and his fiancé, Lily Lutz; and her eight great-great-grandchildren, Adilynn Fisher, Taylen Fisher, Rush Fisher, Kole Whatley, Wrenli Whatley, Mallaree Burris, Kross Allen and Clay Allen.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Muleshoe Meals on Wheels, 300 S.1st Street, Ste. 110, Muleshoe, TX, 79347.
