Mary Jo (Holt) Black, age 81, of Plainview, Texas, died Monday, August 23, 2021, in Stanton, Texas. She was born January 5, 1940, in Littlefield, Texas to Clyde O. and Mary Frances (Willis) Holt.
Mary Jo taught public school in Tulia, Texas and Plainview for many years. She owned and operated Uniques and Antiques in Plainview for over nine years. She was the past president of the Plainview chapter of TSTA, a past board member of the Hale County Teachers Credit Union and past president of ESA social sorority in Plainview. Mary Jo was nominated for West Texas Woman of the Year at West Texas University in Canyon, Texas. She was also past president of for the Plainview Art and Antiques Association. Mary Jo loved to play bridge with her friends. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Fortenberry; her parents; and a brother, Jim Clyde Holt.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Cindy Ashmore and her husband, Junior of Stanton, Texas; her sister-in-law, Wanda Holt of Opelike, Alabama; her four grandchildren, Amber Terrell and her husband, Royce, Ashley Blumensaadt and her husband, Phil, Jordan (the favorite) Ashmore and his wife, Kali and Morgan Glaspie and her husband, KJ; and her seven great-grandchildren, Layne, Madilyn, Braylin, Hayden, Grayson, Layton and Lucas, and one on the way.
