Obituary for Mary Jo Burge (Reeder)
Mary Jo (Reeder) Burge died Friday, February 22, 2019 in Littleton, Colorado at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 29 days. She was born May 23, 1932 in Bailey County, Texas to Harl Eger and Lillian Hazel (Terrell) Reeder.
Born in a dug-out in the Fairview district, Mary Jo attended Fairview School and then Muleshoe High School. Her passion was nursing, and as a teen, she trained in the nursing programs at Amherst and Littlefield hospitals. As a nurse aide, she spent her life caring for and serving others. Mary Jo loved to serve and loved her community. Whether it be rolling hair or servicing coffee and donuts for the residents at Parkview Care Center, helping at the Heritage Thrift Shop, delivering meals-on-wheels, or serving on church committees, Mary Jo devoted her time in service to the community that she loved so much. What spare time she did have, she spent at The Bailey County Senior Citizens Center, exercising, playing games, and enjoying the fellowship of her many friends.
Mary Jo is survived by her sons, Harl Hargett and Aaron Hargett; her daughter, Joette Stewart; 3 granddaughters, Brittany Kilgore, Rebecca Hargett, and April Stewart, 4 grandsons; Collin Hargett, Zachary Stewart, Joshua Hargett, and Josiah Hargett, and four great-grandsons; Tyler Griffin, Tristen Hargett, Payton Hargett and Preston Stewart.
In addition to her parents, among her relatives and friends who awaited her in glory are her 3 brothers, Everett Lee Reeder, H.E. Reeder, Ivan Reeder; and two sisters; Margret Joyce Reeder, and Dorothy Bowers, 3 sons, Justin, Robert Glenn, and Darvey Hargett, 1 daughter; Marie Hargett and a grandson; Addison Stewart, and husband; Harold Burge.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Muleshoe Senior Citizens Center, PO Box 292, Muleshoe, Texas, 79347, Muleshoe First Baptist Church, PO Box 483, Muleshoe, Texas, 79347 or charity of their choice.
