Obituary for Mary Richards
Mary Richards, age 88, of Mayhill, New Mexico, died Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in Portales, New Mexico. She was born September 26, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to Herbert W. and Hanna Mae (Griffith) Axe. She married Richard "Dick" Richards in Garland, Texas on August 22, 1954.
Mary graduated from Texas Tech University. She was a preacher’s wife, mother of four and most importantly, a strong woman of God. Mary loved living on the mountain and sharing her faith at her church in Cloudcroft. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Herb Axe; and a grandson, Chad Bales.
Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dick; her son, Scott Richards and his wife, Sherrie of Booker, Texas; her three daughters, Kathy Richards of League City, Texas, Lori Bales and her husband, Kem of Muleshoe, Texas and Jeanna MacLean of Phoenix, Arizona; her brother, Charles Axe and his wife, Eula; her four grandchildren, David Richards and his fiancé, Michelle, Tanner Bales and his girlfriend, Lisa, Eleysa Richards and Bailey Bales and her boyfriend, Tyler; and her four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Sacremento Senior Citizens Center, 2012 Glorietta Avenue, Cloudcroft, New Mexico, 88317 or Cloudcroft United Methodist Church, 50 Chipmunk Avenue, Cloudcroft, New Mexico, 88317.
