Obituary for Morris Bruns
Morris Bruns died Thursday, May 16, 2019 in Amarillo, after a short illness. He was born March 6, 1938 in Lubbock, Texas to Leslie Fay and Ruby Nell (Morris) Bruns.
Morris grew up on the family farm in Parmer County and attended schools in Clovis, New Mexico; Lockney, Texas; Lazbuddie, Texas; Muleshoe, Texas; and graduated from Friona High School in May 1956. Morris graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA degree in English. He began his teaching career at Smiley Wilson Junior High School in Lubbock at age 20. His next teaching contract took him to West High School in Aurora, Illinois, where he stayed for many years. After 40 years of teaching, Morris returned to Muleshoe, living in the family home and the Park View Nursing Center until his death. He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Fred and Edith Bruns of Muleshoe and Luther and Julia Herman of Sulpher Springs, Texas; and one brother, Jerry Fred Bruns and his wife Jenda.
Morris is survived by his three sisters, Julia Watson, Sonja Sue Tucker and Jane Stephens, and her husband, Keith; his two brothers, Robert Bruce Bruns and his wife, Connie and Jon Mark Bruns and his wife, Sharla; five nephews, Brent Stephens and his wife, Genesis, Troy Watson, Jeremy Bruns, and his wife, Kathy, Neal Watson, and Jeffrey Bruns and his wife, Stephanie; two nieces, Amber Elliott and her husband, Darren and Kristi Borthwick and her husband, Brian; five grand-nieces, Kate Borthwick, Carlie Borthwick, Jaelynn Stephens, Brynn Borthwick, and Gaby Stephens; and three grand-nephews, Griffin Elliott, Austin Elliott and Hudson Elliott.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Park View Nursing Home, 1100 West Avenue J, Muleshoe, Texas, 79347.
