Richard Paul Ruby, age 70, passed away in his home in Earth, Texas on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 after an extended illness. Due to the Covid 19 crisis, graveside services will be held at a later date. He was born August 26, 1949 in McCook, Nebraska to Richard Douglas and Elaine Day Potts.
Richard graduated from Springlake-Earth High School in 1967 and continued to Texas Tech University for three years, where he majored in architecture. He married Patty Moore on June 28, 1985 and considered her his gift from God. He loved racing, building engines, watching westerns and Gospel music. Richard was known throughout the Panhandle of Texas as a master brick mason and was a member of Bricklayers International Union (BAC). He also set up an online car club for West Texas and Eastern New Mexico Vintage Drag Racing with J. Frank Kiker. Richard was an honorary member of the Amarillo Hall of Fame Racing in Amarillo, Texas. He was a member of the Earth United Methodist Church. Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Patty; his parents, Doug and Nora Ruby; his mother Elaine Potts; a son, Corey Moore; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Brunson; his sisters, LaQuita Harmon and Gloria Ruby Kersey; a brother, Stuart Ruby; and two brothers-in-law, Kay Harmon and James Truelock.
Richard is survived by his children by marriage, Todd Moore and his wife, Carla of Earth, Texas, Kelly Freeman and her husband, Eric of Lubbock, Texas; his brother, Tommy Ruby and his wife, Barbara of Clovis, New Mexico; two sisters, Susan Ruby of Nashville, Tennessee and Sharron Truelock of Dennison, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins; loving friends and his special friend and caregiver, Minnie Newsom.
