Obituary for Teddy P Tucker

Teddy P. Tucker passed from his Earthly home on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 in Farwell, Texas at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 9 days. He was born December 3, 1933 in Elk City, Oklahoma to T.P. and Millie (Hunt) Tucker. He married Billie Ruth Morris in Pampa, Texas on September 2, 1956.

Teddy was the 8th of 9 children. He was raised on the family farm in the Sunny Point Community of Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the Army in 1954, assigned to the Field Artillery Division in Germany, when he was not commissioned by officers to play baseball on one of their teams. He received his honorable discharge in January of 1956. Returning home, he met Ruth Morris of Mobeetie, Texas and married soon after. He then began his career in the automotive parts business in Pampa, Texas. The advancement of farm irrigation moved the couple to Friona, Texas where they spent the next 40 years before retiring.

While in Friona, Teddy was active in Lions Club, Friona Booster Club and his favorite sport of baseball. He won many games while coaching 22 years in Little League Baseball and hosting players from visiting towns during tournaments. A big joy was hosting high school basketball players during pheasant season, as he would always find a way to take them hunting during their stay at his house. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish. He was mainstay in the introduction of ring neck pheasant’s to Parmer County. Teddy worked with the Texas Parks and Wildlife, monitoring Sandhill Crane migration into the area. He served as the President of the Friona Senior Citizens from 2000 to 2002. Teddy was honored by the Little League Baseball Association for his efforts serving as coach and League President. He was also honored by the Friona Chamber of Commerce by being named the 2002 Citizen of the Year.

In October of 2002, Teddy and Ruth left Friona and moved to within 30 miles of where he was raised in Wheeler. Teddy always had a big garden, but now the opportunity to increase the size was even bigger as he was back in the farming and ranching business he grew up with. His garden took first priority over everything. He dearly loved sharing the garden harvest with everyone. In June of 2014, the Tuckers moved west again to Muleshoe, where he became a faithful attendee at the Senior Citizens and worked on maintenance projects needed at the Primitive Baptist Church and assisting on the farm and growing an even bigger garden. Teddy loved to hear kids playing, and was blessed to be surrounded by several throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Addie Driscoll; and four brothers, W.P. Tucker, C.R. Tucker, W.F. Tucker and George Lee Tucker.

Teddy is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Alesia Martin and her husband, Jason of Henderson, Texas; his son, Mark Tucker and his wife, Irene of Muleshoe, Texas; his sister, Mae Wood; his two brothers, Windle Tucker and Doyle Tucker; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
