Obituary for Vernie Schacher (Birkenfeld)
Vernie Schacher, age 76, of Lazbuddie, Texas, died Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in Amarillo, Texas. She was born February 26, 1946 in Knox City, Texas to Christopher and Rose (Decker) Birkenfeld. She married Gene Schacher in Nazareth, Texas on November 7, 1964.
Vernie had a wonderful gift of making others feel cared for and welcomed and she readily shared her faith through both words and actions. She never missed an important celebration or sporting event that involved her grandkids or great grandkids, no matter how far she had to travel to get there. Her love of golf and cards brought such enjoyment and fellowship with those around her, and her talent in the kitchen was enjoyed by anyone blest to share a meal with her. Vernie was a true and faithful matriarch and relished time spent with her family. Her presence will truly be missed around each and every family table and celebration. She is preceded in
death by her husband, Gene; a son, David Schacher; her parents; and four brothers.
Vernie is survived by her son, Daniel Schacher and his wife, Mary Jo of Lazbuddie, Texas; her two daughters, Becky Sava and her husband, Greg of Bowie, Maryland and Cathy (Schacher) Wallace of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Stephanne Dobmeier of Nazareth, Texas; her two brothers, Joe Lynn Birkenfeld of Nazareth, Texas and Leslie Birkenfeld of San Antonio, Texas; her fifteen grandchildren, Brittney Smith and her husband, Zack, Jacob Schacher, Kinzi Jo Cox and her husband, Dylan, Justin Schacher and his wife, Maysun, John Henry Schacher, Sarah Sava, Anna Sava, Dallas Sava, Zachary Sava, Samantha Sava, Carly Sava, Jaclyn Sava, Wyatt Sava, Elizabeth Wallace and Erin Wallace; her six great-grandchildren, Madelyn Smith, Barrett Smith, Bowen Smith, Stetson Cox, Cooper Cox and Baylor Cox.
