Doug died December 31, 2014 in Lubbock. He was born May 12, 1934 in Lamb County, Texas to Henry and Lucy (Goldston) Lewis. He married Barbara McCaskill in Earth on June 29, 1956. She passed away on February 20, 2008. He later married Fran McCarty in Slaton in 2009.

Doug served in the U.S. Army. He was involved in many facets of the agriculture and ranching industry, and attended the Earth United Methodist Church. He served on the Springlake-Earth School Board for several years. Doug was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; his parents; and his sister, Lois Sandel.

Survivors include his wife, Fran; his son, Sam Lewis of Bulverde, Texas; his daughter, Rosie Davis of Earth, Texas; his step-son, Mike McCarty of Lubbock, Texas; his step-daughter, Michele Barton of Lubbock, Texas; his brother, Thurman Lewis of Earth, Texas; eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
