Joy died March 30, 2015 in Lubbock. She was born March 11, 1926 in Hermliegh, Texas to Elijah and Bessie (Hale) Saunders. She married Roger Haberer in Earth on March 16, 1946.

Joy moved to Lubbock from Earth in 2012. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Earth, where she taught Sunday School. She also taught school for several years at the Springlake School. Joy was an avid bridge player and loved crossword puzzles. She was very involved in Mission Earth. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include, her husband, Roger; her son, Davey Haberer and his wife, Debbie of Kingsland, Texas; her daughter, Camille Lewis and her husband, Richard of Lubbock, Texas; her sister, Gay Carter of Big Spring, Texas; four grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
