Thurman died Sunday, August 16, 2015 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born September 20, 1929 in Lamb County to Henry and Lucy Lewis. He married Pat Mann in Earth, Texas on December 20, 1953.

Thurman was a lifelong member of the Earth Community. He was a graduate of Springlake- Earth High School. Thurman was a farmer/rancher and served as the Lamb County Commissioner from 1968-2006. He was a member of the Earth Church of Christ. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lois Sandel; and one brother, Doug Lewis.


Survivors include his wife Pat; one son, Kent Lewis and wife Connie of Earth, Texas; two daughters, Sheila Johnson and husband, Fred of Littlefield, Texas and Petra Waldrip and husband, Randy of Dalhart, Texas; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
