Obituary for Wendell Hugh Clayton
Church Service for Wendell Clayton, age 85, of Earth, Texas, is scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Earth Church of Christ with Glenn Branscum and Robbie Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Earth Memorial Cemetery. Wendell died Monday, October 3, 2016 in Lockney, Texas. He was born August 20, 1931 in Silverton, Texas to John Monroe and Winifred Ann (Wilson) Clayton. He married LaVelle Caraway in Amherst, Texas on December 20, 1955.
Wendell had lived in the Earth community since 1958. He owned and operated Earth Pump and Machine in Earth. He was a member of the Earth Lions Club. Wendell was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Earth. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Puckett in 2000; his parents; his granddaughter, Morgan Clayton in 2014; and his great-grandson, Caiden Taylor in 2016.
Wendell is survived by his wife, LaVelle; his son, Allen Clayton and his wife, Dana of Mustang, Oklahoma; his two daughters, Lisa Van Cleave and her husband, Fred of Tuscola, Texas and DeAnne McCarty and her husband, Mike of Lubbock, Texas; twelve grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois, 60601.
