Obituary for James Brown

James  Brown
James died December 24, 2016, in Muleshoe. He was born May 5, 1944, in Clovis, New Mexico to Dee and Dorothy (Harris) Brown. He married Dianne Wilson in Muleshoe on July 8th, 1966. James was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy in 1990, his father Dee in 2004, his brother Mac in 2010, and his daughter Jana Brown Finke in 2015.

Background:
James graduated from Lazbuddie High School in 1962, and then continued his education at West Texas University graduating in 1967, with a degree in plant and soil science. After graduation, James and Dianne moved to Wellington, Texas, where he worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service and the first of their three daughters, Courtney, was born. Within the next year, they moved to Crosbyton, Texas with the Soil Conservation Service, and their second daughter, Jana, was born. When Jana was two weeks old, they moved to Stratford, Texas and started their first year of farming in 1969. They moved back to Parmer County in 1970, and their last daughter, Debbie, was born. James farmed for the next forty-five years, retiring in 2012. James was a member of the Muleshoe Church of Christ. He was a board member of Plains Cotton Growers, serving on their Executive Committee. James was also on the Executive Board of Cotton Incorporated, serving as Agriculture Research Chairman. He was a member of the steering committee of North West Plains Boll Weevil Eradication Zone, and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Plains Cotton Co-operative Association and the Farmers Co-operative Compress. James was a past president of the Muleshoe Co-op Gin and Blackwater Agricultural Association.Survivors:
James is survived by his wife Dianne of Muleshoe, Texas; daughters Courtney Ware of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Debbie Schulze and husband Paul of Pflugerville, Texas; son-in-law Scott Finke of Spring, Texas; grandchildren Karen & Clayton Ware, Adam and Meredith Finke, and Daniel, Anna, Rachel, Sarah, and Elizabeth Schulze; nephews Russell Brown, Brandon Brown, B.J. Brown, and a niece Stephanie Wright.
