Obituary for Ardis Barton

Ardis  Barton
Ardis died peacefully Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Lubbock. He was born October 31, 1927 in Springlake to A.C. and Almer (McCool) Barton.

Ardis Barton attended Springlake Schools and graduated in 1945. He then attended Texas Tech University on a basketball scholarship, and played four years for Coach Polk Robison. Ardis made many lifelong friends there. He also met a beautiful woman, Virginia Lee Leonard. They were married on September 12, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduating from Tech, Ardis began his successful career in farming around Springlake, Texas. He farmed for 48 years and owned Barton Bros. Gin in Earth. He was a member of the Jaycee’s and served on the Springlake School Board. After retiring, he began growing tomatoes. Most years, he had enough for all his family and friends. Ardis and Virginia loved to travel and they were supporters of Tech Athletic events. In 2016, Ardis moved to Raider Ranch in Lubbock. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia, who died April of 2007, after 58 years of marriage; his two brothers; and his two sisters.

Ardis is survived by his daughter, Cindy Blackwell and her husband, Carrol of Lubbock, Texas; his two sons, Tony Barton and his wife, Lisa of Earth, Texas and Mark Barton of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Earth United Methodist Church, 303 NE 1st Street, Earth, Texas, 79031.
