Obituary

Helen was born March 11, 1933 in Earth, Texas to Henry J. and Mary E. (Truelock) Gilmore. She married Hershell Hulcy in Earth on August 15, 1949. Those who knew Helen knew how much she loved to be in the garden. On Tuesday, December 17, 2019 she received the invitation to create a new garden for a newly completed, glorious mansion. Helen gladly accepted the position, knowing that she would get to see her sweet Hershell again a well as so many other family and friends. Helen conquered her battle with Alzheimer’s in Lubbock, Texas surrounded by so much love and joy.

Helen retired from Springlake-Earth ISD after many years as the high school secretary. She also worked as the church secretary in Earth, was an investment clerk at the Earth Branch of Andrews Savings & Loan and was an insurance clerk for McCarty Insurance. Helen served four years on the Earth city council, acting as the Mayor Pro-tem for two of those years. She was a vital member of We the Women, the Senior Citizens and a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Springlake, taking over the shut-in ministry after Hershell died. Helen was welcomed into Heaven by an assemblage of family and friends, lead by her loving husband, Hershell; followed by her parents; two sisters, Pauline Sloan and Leola Mae Gilmore; and a brother, Leonard D. Gilmore.

Helen’s memory lives on through her two sons, Bryan Hulcy and his wife, Judy of Clarksville, Tennessee and Greg Hulcy and his wife, Teri of Hulbert, Oklahoma; her daughter, Kareen Lively and her husband, Paul of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, Verlon Gilmore of DeBary, Florida and Noel Gilmore and his wife, Margie of Temple, Texas; seven grandchildren, Daniel Bryan Hulcy and his wife Julie, Paula James and her husband, Kyle, Lacy Carr and her husband, Jeff, Marcus Lively and his wife, Regina, Bethany Powell and her husband, Mrkus, Heather Porter and her husband, Blake and Ayssa Rowan and her husband, Layton; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to her family-in-love at Brookdale Monterey in Lubbock. Their love and compassion meant more to us than we could ever express.

The family suggests memorials be sent to West Texas Alzhiemers Association, 110 Mesa Park Drive, Suite 250, El Paso, Texas, 79912 (please note on your donation “GiGi’s Warriors Walk Team) or Hospice of Lubbock, 3702 – 21st Street, Lubbock, Texas, 79410.
