LIving on the Edge

Darrell was an original, unique and a very special man. Our families have been friends for 29 years. Our three girls bought all their pigs and lambs from the Mason's. The impact that had on our family and community has connected families all over the state of Texas. The Lazbuddie/ Humble Connection began with caravans of trucks, trailers and cars filled with 4H & FFA students racing toward West Texas to get the BEST in the Barn to compete for all the major shows and run the circuit. There is NO telling how many critters were donated to kids so they could participate. And there were countless meals of rolled roast, Billie's creamed corn and Virgie's Cherry ice cream. Kendra, our eldest, had to take her first Houston Lamb to the truck and was devasted and attached, we couldn't stand it. So Darrell stepped up, grabbed that hot pink halter in one hand, and had Kendra's little hand in the other. Darrell carried that third grader, boots and all, back to the show box as cried her heart out. He told to come get any lamb she wanted at his place. Talk about a big hearted man! Wow!. Then Blair's first pig, she named MIss Darrell, because she simply adored Darrell Mason. He loved kids, and he really loved her too. She was his PIG KID with Pig Tails. Brook, our middle girl, road with him through part of Kingwood with trailer in tow, where they bogged down on the esplanade when he had illegally tried to turn around. They giggled and she told him,"Darrell, you are always living on the edge!" They had many more fun trips in that old blue and gray pick up where they would laugh and have crazy stories to tell later. Many trips from Lazbuddie to Humble and meeting up at all the stock shows for Mexican food and more laughter. Over the years, Darrell and Billie became family. Here are a few of our best memories - John Deer tractors, cotton gin, sneaking out of Fort Worth with the sheep in the back of the suburban, teaching me how to cook poblano peppers. ribbons, buckles, banners, blue Mason Brothers caps, cokes at the Town & Country, scratch off tickets, trips to Joe's Boots, sleeping on show boxes, a special Thanksgiving dinner at the Mason's , Redmon Barn with Mason Animals, Clays Corner, two Pyrenees puppies, barn parties, taking the kids to Lazbuddie school, Darrell's crazy driving- which led to "Living on the EDGE!" To that tough, rugged farmer and tender hearted friend- rest, no more pain, you are in God's arms. One more guardian angel. All our love, The Redmon Family/Humble Connection xoxox
